The wood duck is the most colorful duck in North America. In Texas it is the only wild duck that is a widespread and regular nester. Unlike other dabbling ducks, the wood duck consistently nests in tree cavities. They also will accept wood duck houses constructed and placed near water by an increasing number of Texans.
